Thinking Sphinx

Reported by sudara | October 16th, 2008 @ 06:17 AM | in Move to EY

:)

Let's get the search going!!

I want TS to be working when we move to EY

Any suggestions about implementation? I'm good on the server side, but I don't know much about the rails side :/

The hard part for me will be the view - how to display different kinds of information.

Also, if someone types in "sudara" i want it to redirect to http://alonetone.com/sudara or "tiendung" should redirect to http://alonetone.com/tiendung

Have a good vacation!

    Hey Tien.

I just had the idea of using Thinking Sphinx to let users search through their track play history.

    Look here:

It would be nice to have a 'live search' where someone could type an IP, a username, or a part of the name of a track to see only those results.

What do you think? Would sphinx be a good fit?

    Hi Sudara,

Did you mean "live search" is function like Google Auto-suggestion?

    Or somethinng like this http://orderedlist.com/demos/qui...?

I think Sphinx will help to find a list of satisfied results more quickly than database query, after that we can use ajax to display searched results to make them look like "live search".

We can search for word prefix and suffix also. For example:

When a user typed "suda", "sudara" should apprear in search results.

We can do that using Sphinx by turning on enable_start and setting min_prefix_len and min_infix_len config paramaters of Sphinx.

    Hi Tien

Yes, some kind of ajax search that would talk to Sphinx. But this is only for the listen history, and it would be different from the site search. This would be so that people could quickly look through their listens...

The normal search should not be ajax, just normal like it is now. And it would be GREAT for 'suda' to match 'sudara' for example.

    :)

    How are you?

    Long time no talk!

How is everything? Do you think you want to work more on thinking sphinx, or should I finish it up?
